List of Standard Software
Standard hardware, software, and protocols
The ITC Help Desk will install, manage and troubleshoot the standard suite of software on all computers owned by the University, provided the software is installed on standard, University owned hardware.
Standard hardware is purchased by the ITC, or the Chief Information Officer authorizes the purchase. Procurement of computers occurs each year between June and September. Campus Units are encouraged to make purchases in conjunction with the ITC, to reduce the complexity of technical support.
The current suite of standard PC software includes the following:
- Microsoft Windows 7 64bit operating system
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher - all ver 2010 Professional
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.x or higher & Mozilla Firefox 5.0 or higher
- Microsoft Forefront Antivirus
- Pinnacle Studio 15 HD
- Photoshop Elements 9
The Help Desk provides technical support for PC related issues. The Help Desk will attempt to answer questions about other software owned by the University. Students with specific questions about discipline specific software will be referred to the course instructor. Staff and faculty with specific questions may be referred to other users within the VCSU community or to the vendor if necessary.
The Help Desk will install (or facilitate the distribution of) and manage the licenses of other software owned by the University upon request, provided the following procedures are followed: 1) A copy of the purchase order and license agreement is provided to the Help Desk, 2) Enough licenses are available to cover the installation requests. There must to be enough licenses to cover the sum of all installations occurring between August 1 - July 31 of each academic year, unless arrangements are made to uninstall the software at the end of each semester. This is necessary, because the hard drives are erased only once per year, around July 31. 3) The original software media is turned over to the Help Desk, 4) The Help Desk is the sole distributor of the software.
A list of non-standard software owned by the University and managed by the Help Desk includes the following:
- Maple 12
- Adobe InDesign CS5
- Adobe Acrobat Professional CS5
- Adobe Dreamweaver CS5
- Finale 2011
